The compelling history of Villa Mangiacane dates back to the 14th century. Designed by Michelangelo and built for the Machiavelli family, Villa Mangiacane and its vineyards are today a place where history, art and culture coexist, and are, undoubtably a symbol of the Chianti hills south to Florence.
Just 12 km south of Florence, Villa Mangiacane is physically located in the small village of Sant’Andrea in Percussina, in the heart of Chianti Classico. The sweet and charming hills overlooking Florence frame perfectly the beauty of Villa Mangiacane. The estate extends over 242 hectares of land, 43 of which covered with vineyards and more than 600 olive trees, where wine and extra virgin olive oil, both of exceptional quality, are produced every year. Several typical varieties of the area are cultivated, especially Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Colorino and Trebbiano but also Merlot and Petit Verdot.
The Terroir at Mangiacane is characterized by a strong presence of skeleton, mainly round pebble of river origin that can vary in concentration depending on the slope and the altitudes of the vineyards. The soils, ensuring a good availability of water, protect the vineyards from the hottest years that lately turn out to be increasingly frequent in Tuscany.
Over the years choices in the winery have been driven by the unavoidable will of the owners to pursue and produce always the best, in the pursuit of perfection. But there is more. There is the desire to take advantage of the great potentialities of this enchanting landscape, its particular soil and its special climate, in order to produce an exceptional oil and wine, which are a tribute and a declaration of love to this magnificent area. These choices include the conversion to organic farming and triple selection of the grapes.

We stopped here for a tour and tasting experience with dinner included on the way down to Siena. The tasting and dinner experience was great. Delicious wine and incredible food. The service was exception!
