We are a small family-run winery south of Montalcino, between Sant’Angelo in colle and Castelnuovo dell’abate. The winery was founded in 1980 and the first vineyard, from which we currently produce our Brunello di Montalcino, was planted in 1982. Currently, Sesta di Sopra has a total of 4 hectares of vineyards and 2 of olive groves.

WINE TASTING
The tasting consists of a short winery presentation followed by a tasting of 2 wines:
Rosso di Montalcino and Brunello di Montalcino, accompanied by a tasting of our grappa.
Between the Rosso and the Brunello di montalcino, there will be a short tour of the winery to get into the winemaking process.

It’s a cosy but intimate wine tasting experience hosted in the heart of their very own family home. Matteo, the original owner’s grandson, is very passionate about continuing and expanding his grandparents legacy. It’s very heartening to see how he balances old traditions learned from his grandparents and introduce new ways to bring Sesta di Sopra to the next level. Matteo is also an excellent guide, very open to questions without judgement, so don’t worry if you’re not a wine expert, you’ll be welcomed with open arms at their winery.
Bottles are hand labelled, taking extra care to ensure that the labels are properly placed on the precise spot on the bottles – you can really appreciate the sincerity of the process. Also couldn’t leave without a bottle of their 2018 brunello magistra!

NuovaYou only need to meet Matteo’s grandparents to understand why he is such a welcoming host. Knowing them, it is also possible to understand the excellent quality of the wine produced in this jewel of Montalcino.
After the visit, we went to a restaurant recommended by Matteo and tasted Brunello from another well-known producer, which only served to confirm the superior quality of the wine produced in Sesta di Sopra

Amazing place! Matteo is a lovely host who allows you to experience Montalcino at its finest. Selection of wine is fantastic. Higly recommend, especially for those looking for unique tour and tasting.

Definitely visit this family run delicious brunello producing winery with gorgeous views and the best hospitality near Montalcino! We were looking for a private winery tour and tasting to try an undiscovered brunello, and had the great pleasure of meeting the grandparents who started the winery and the grandson, as well as kind staff who gave me a rose freshly picked from the garden. We felt more like family as we sat in their dining room and learned mote about their interesting story and also heard anecdotes about the history of the area that we did not know. We are invited back to the grape harvest, now that is hospitality! The wine is the reason, and we enjoyed the tastings, especially the brunello and rosso di Montalcino both 2018 and new yet already quite nice. We were hesitant to try the grappa, not big fans, but our minds and hearts are forever changed and open to this delicious alcoholic treat now! Matteo showed us how to identify good grappa and then when we tasted their grappa reserve bottle, mamma mia, the yummy light fig flavor will remain with our memory, very delightful learning experience! Two hours later, our tiny Fiat 500c is loaded with their gift of local honey included with our brunello and riserva grappa purchases, sent us off quite satisfied we will meet again soon, in Anzio this time! Wonderful family owned winery productions excellent Brunellos and more. We had the pleasure of receiving a tasting and tour from Matteo, and it was certainly one of our favorite experiences in Montalcino. If you enjoy learning about the wine and the process behind it, I highly suggest a visit. They are also making very good olive oils as well!

Absolutely in love with this wine and the family who runs it. It’s a small operation and the tasting experience felt very personable. You can tell how much care and love they put into each bottle!
Matteo was an excellent guide, and his grandparents popped by to talk about the wine, too. We even tried grappa which really grew on me. Definitely a must-see if you find yourself in Tuscany.

Εξαιρετική τοποθεσία μέσα στην φύση, τέλειες εγκαταστάσεις και κυρίως πολύ κατατοπιστική ξενάγηση και φιλοξενία από τον Ματέο και όλη την οικογένεια του. An absolute hidden gem. We were in the area and tried to find a more off-the-beaten path winery, and Sesta di Sopra popped up on our google search. It turns out that Sesta di Sopra is that and so much more. This is a truly family-run winery, and the love and passion they put into their wine is palpable. We had the pleasure of meeting Matteo and his grandfather (who started the business decades ago). Matteo was an absolutely delight and led an informative and intimate tasting in their home.
On top of all of that, the wines themselves were AMAZING. We had not planned on buying any wines but of course walked out with 4 delicious bottles. We will absolutely be back, and we are excited to hear about the yield of the upcoming harvest!
